Abstract:

Transit and High Speed Rail Systems operate under high traffic density and face small windows for Inspection and Repairs (I&R). In recent years, Rail Industry: Railroads, Suppliers and Consulting Engineers have acquired significant experience from various case studies and application of solutions to control and remedy of Rolling Contact Fatigue conditions for Safety of the passenger trains. This paper discusses importance of field inspection, prioritization, training of field personnel for remedial solutions. Author will illustrate from his hands-on field experience in UK, how RCF/GCC conditions were managed to improve safety and reliability by preserving assets for long term benefit of the System. Program was managed under heavy passenger traffic to a successful conclusion.
