Controlling the friction level at the wheel/rail interface using On-Board, solid friction modifying Rail Sticks is an underutilized practice throughout the world. Where these Rail Sticks are used, they are infrequently evaluated for carry, noise reduction, wheel and rail improvement etc. This paper covers multiple data sets to compare various test results, describes the benefits of deploying such solutions and discusses the implications of not deploying best practices.
